Discovering Pieria: A Small Region with Infinite Experiences

Three years have passed since I started my journey with Experience Pieria, and the truth is: it feels like I’ve only just scratched the surface. Pieria may be one of the smallest regions in Greece, yet it holds everything. From the turquoise sea to the majestic mountains, from ancient history to modern gastronomy, from vibrant culture to hidden natural treasures — Pieria is a compact universe waiting to be explored.

And honestly? I haven’t even seen half of it yet.

A Gastronomic Adventure by the Sea

This time, our exploration was less about climbing Mount Olympus or visiting archaeological sites, and more about something simple, immediate, and heartwarming: a gastronomic adventure.

We set up on the beach of Leptokarya, under the natural shade of the tamarisks. With us was the Coral Gas Smart Grill — a true companion for seaside cooking. Simple, safe, and reliable, it gave us the freedom to transform fresh local products into a meal that truly tasted like Pieria itself.

But before the grill could do its magic, there was the hunt: where to find the freshest ingredients?

The Local Hunt for Flavors

We visited a local seafood business, recommended by friends, clients, and even visitors of our website. This is one of the things that sets Experience Pieria apart: every single place we feature is personally checked by me and my team. No exceptions. Even in the free package currently running for the first 50 businesses, we don’t just list names — we go, we talk, we taste.

Being a Google Local Guide Level 6, this is something I truly enjoy — sharing experiences that matter, first-hand, and now reaching a wider audience.

At the seafood shop, we asked if they could clean the calamari for us so it would be ready for cooking. Their response? Friendly, quick, and with a warm smile — exactly the kind of service that makes a local experience memorable. We also picked up fresh shrimps, both ingredients absolutely top-notch in quality.

To complement the seafood, we gathered:

• Juicy cherry tomatoes, bursting with summer flavor
• Briny black olives, straight from local groves
• Freshly chopped parsley, aromatic and bright
• Garlic, pungent and fragrant
• Kefalotyri cheese, rich and slightly salty
• Freshly ground black pepper, just enough to awaken the flavors
• Local olive oil, fruity and golden, gifted by a friend
  
• Crumbled toasted bread, perfect for soaking up all the flavors

Every ingredient was chosen with care, ready to transform our seaside grill into a simple yet unforgettable feast.

Cooking with the Coral Gas Smart Grill

Back at the beach, it was time to cook. Our style is always simple — no complicated recipes, just pure, honest flavors. On the Smart Grill, the calamari and shrimp transformed into something extraordinary: juicy, flavorful, the very essence of the sea.

Usually our recipes include bread, pita, or similar bases. This time, however, Anna-Maria crafted something clever: a little “boat” made of baking paper. She tied the edges with string, turning it into a gondola — the perfect plate for those who don’t want to carry extras. A handy tip for anyone seeking smart and light travel cooking!
