Wine, Harvest & Local Life in Pieria | A Night Among the Vineyards

There are evenings when a place becomes part of the story.
A summer sunset, rows of vines, a glass of wine, music in the distance and people coming together to celebrate the harvest.

This is the atmosphere we found at Oraia Gi Winery, near Kato Milia in the Pierian Mountains, during a night dedicated to the grape harvest — the Trygos.

It was more than an evening of wine and music.
It was a chance to experience a small part of local life in Pieria, surrounded by vineyards and with Mount Olympus watching over the landscape.

A Night Among the Vineyards

On September 14, 2024, we headed to a vineyard near Kato Milia for an evening organised by Oraia Gi Winery.

The setting immediately changed the rhythm of the evening.
Instead of a conventional venue, the gathering took place among the vines, surrounded by the mountains and the open landscape of Pieria.

As the sun began to set, the vineyard slowly filled with people, conversation, food and music.

Wine, Vineyards & the Harvest

The Trygos is traditionally connected with the grape harvest — an important moment in the yearly cycle of wine production.

At the vineyard, the harvest became the reason for people to gather, share food and wine, listen to music and enjoy the landscape together.

We began the evening with a glass of the award-winning Assyrtiko “Two Oaks”, while the last light of the day illuminated the vineyards and the slopes of Mount Olympus.

This is perhaps what makes wine experiences in places like Pieria interesting.
The wine is not experienced separately from the landscape.
The vineyards, the mountains, the harvest and the people who work with the land are all part of the same story.

Food, Music & Local Life

As evening turned into night, the gathering continued with a barbecue, wine, conversations and music.

The DJ set brought a different energy to the vineyard, with guests dancing among the vines while others gathered around the fire and continued talking late into the night.

For some, the evening continued until the early morning hours.
By then, the experience had moved beyond the original celebration and simply become a memorable night in the mountains of Pieria.
