Grillhouse Karathanas, Lofos

Grillhouse Karathanas is a traditional Greek grillhouse in Lofos, Pieria, with a history dating back to 1961.

The grillhouse focuses on traditional Greek meat dishes prepared over charcoal, using quality meats from the nearby areas of Lofos and Vria.

Among the dishes we have enjoyed are roasted pork and tender goat, served with traditional sides and salads. The fresh-cut potatoes from Livadi, served with cheese and oregano, are another highlight.

The homemade tirokafteri is also worth trying. Prepared with feta, roasted red peppers, garlic, olive oil and chilli, it has a distinctive spicy flavour and pairs particularly well with grilled meat and warm pita.

But food is only part of the experience.

Located in the village square beneath old plane trees, Grillhouse Karathanas has the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional Pierian village, with Greek music, conversation and the simple pleasure of sitting down for a generous meal.

With its long history, charcoal grilling and connection to local ingredients and village life, Karathanas is a place to discover traditional flavours while exploring the villages of Pieria.
