During our visit, local recommendations led us towards the small church of Prophet Elias, situated on a hill above the village.

The elevated position provides expansive views across the surrounding mountain landscape and creates a peaceful place to pause and take in the scenery.

For us, it also became the setting for an overnight camping experience.

We had originally planned a camping and outdoor cooking trip.
The idea was simple: find a quiet place, set up the tents and cook outdoors.

Instead of spending the afternoon around our own cooking setup, we met a group of local people and were invited to share their food and company.
That unexpected change of plan became the real experience.

Local Food, Tsipouro & Mountain Hospitality

The afternoon quickly moved towards food.
Regional meats and local appetisers were prepared on the grill, accompanied by tsipouro from Rachi and plenty of conversation.

What began as an unexpected invitation gradually became a proper local gathering, with music and dancing continuing into the afternoon.

This is one of the reasons we believe travel in Pieria is not only about finding places to photograph.
Sometimes the most memorable part of a destination is the person you meet there.

Discovering Local Products

While exploring the village, we also came across local products and homemade sweets.
One of the places that caught our attention was

The shop offered a selection of homemade sweets and local products, including baklava prepared by Joanna.
It was another small discovery that made the village feel less like a stop on a map and more like a place with its own people, flavours and stories.

Agios Dimitrios is also a useful base for exploring the surrounding mountain landscape on foot.
During our visit, we followed local paths through the countryside and forest, enjoying the quieter side of Pieria.

The trails we experienced were surrounded by trees, wildflowers and birdsong, with views opening up between the vegetation as we moved through the landscape.

For visitors interested in walking, the important thing is to choose routes according to current conditions and your own experience.
