Description
To Anoi Tavern
Located in Old Elatochori, Pieria, To Anoi is a traditional Greek tavern at the edge of the village’s main street, surrounded by the mountain landscape of Mount Olympus.
Opened in 2010 by Mr. Thomas, the tavern has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with a large fireplace at the heart of the dining room — especially inviting during the colder months.
The kitchen focuses on traditional Greek food, with homemade dishes and fresh ingredients. The menu includes traditional meat dishes, grilled meats and skewers, homemade soups such as mushroom soup and trachanas, as well as homemade desserts.
To Anoi also prepares game dishes, including wild boar and hare stew, reflecting the traditional mountain character of the area. Some locally produced products, including walnuts, are also available to take home.
But food is only part of the story.
The area around Old Elatochori is also connected with local stories from the past. According to local tradition, a cave located above the tavern was used as a hideout by Yiagoulas, a well-known figure of the early 20th century. Local stories also connect him with To Anoi, where he is said to have stayed when passing through the area.
Today, To Anoi remains a place to eat, gather and experience the atmosphere of mountain Pieria — whether you are exploring Old Elatochori, visiting the nearby ski centre or simply spending time in the Olympus mountains.
