Holy Trinity (Ayia Triada) at Vrontou - Pieria - Greece
The church is a popular destination for religious tourism and has been visited by people from all over the world.
Agia Triada is located at a distance of about 4 km from Vrontou (Βροντού) and at an altitude of 500 meters, built on the rock, on a steep slope. The church is built in such a place, so that it has visibility towards Panagia Kontariotissa and this in turn with the Monastery of Agios Dionysios of Olympus and the Diocese of Petra.
According to oral testimonies, there was a kind of communication with fires, to inform the inhabitants of these areas about the movements of the Turks.
It is a Byzantine building of the 14th century. Two layers of hagiographies are still preserved inside. The first was made in 1350 and the second in 1650. It was accidentally burned in the 60s by burning candles.
The church used to be a monastery. The first part of the church was divided into two floors. A staircase, which burned down and does not exist today, led to the upper floor where the cells where the monks lived.
Today it is a picturesque chapel, which gathers many visitors, who are impressed by the excellent view towards the steep mountain peaks of Olympus.
