Balcony Stories — slow evenings under Mount Olympus
Experience Pieria · October 2025
Autumn balcony vibes in Litochoro — cheesy chicken poppers, smoky veggies, and the glow of Olympus sunsets. Cook, relax, and taste Pieria’s slow life.

September evenings in Litochoro carry their own quiet magic — and in early October, that golden afterglow still lingers.
The village rests in the early shadow of Mount Olympus, while the horizon over the Thermaic Gulf glows warm and slow.
From our balcony, we can see as far as Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki — a reminder that this is a place where mountain and sea coexist, side by side.
On Saturday, September 21st, we turned our balcony into an open-air kitchen. No music, no rush — just birds, children’s laughter below, and cicadas marking the slow shift from summer to autumn. Our first cookout of the new season deserved something special.
On the table, the ingredients waited: chicken drumsticks, potatoes, graviera cheese (yes, we swapped mozzarella for this bold, nutty Greek cheese), sweet paprika, mustard powder, oregano, garlic, coarse salt, and pepper.
For the skewers: cherry tomatoes, red and green bell peppers, onions, and corn. Everything smelled like late summer — fresh, vibrant, inviting.

With the Coral Gas Smart Grill fired up, we started with the chicken: seared with garlic and sweet paprika, then simmered with a splash of water until tender. Once cooled, we pulled the meat off the bone and mixed it with mashed potatoes, grated graviera, oregano, salt, and pepper.
We shaped the mixture back onto the cleaned drumstick bones — little edible sculptures — then coated them in seasoned flour (with mustard powder and oregano), egg, and breadcrumbs.
A quick shallow fry turned them into crisp, golden Cheesy Chicken Drumstick Poppers.
This little balcony grill experience in Litochoro showed us how easy outdoor cooking can be — especially with a Smart Grill that’s made for Greek autumn evenings.

While the chicken sizzled, we threaded the skewers: tomatoes, peppers, onion, corn. A sprinkle of coarse salt and onto the hot grill they went, picking up that unmistakable smoky flavor.

When everything was ready, we served up: crispy, cheesy chicken with its rich filling, smoky-sweet vegetables that tasted like the last breath of summer, and cold drinks to match the cool mountain air.
We ate in silence, watching the stars appear one by one over Olympus. A perfect Saturday night ritual.
