Cultural Experiences — September 27 & 28, 2025. Free admission weekend across Greece
For two golden days this September — Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2025 — Greece opens the gates of history for free. As part of the European Heritage Days celebration, every state-owned archaeological site, museum, and monument welcomes visitors at no cost, all day long. Whether you are a history lover, an archaeology enthusiast, or simply looking for unique things to do in Greece this weekend, this is your chance to walk through millennia without buying a ticket.
The 2025 theme, “Architectural Heritage – Bridging the Past with the Future”, invites travelers to explore how the buildings, temples, and spaces we inherited continue to shape our cultural identity today. In Athens, the sacred rock of the Acropolis will be open to all. And at the Acropolis Museum, a special program will be dedicated to the Erechtheion, one of the most poetic and mysterious temples of classical Greece — offered at 10:00 (English) and 13:00 (Greek) on Sunday, September 28.
For those in Northern Greece, Pieria is a perfect destination to join this celebration. Just an hour from Thessaloniki, you can visit the legendary city of Dion, the sacred place of the ancient Macedonians, where Philip II and Alexander the Great once offered sacrifices to Zeus before campaigns.
European Heritage Days are more than free tickets — they are a call to reconnect with our shared past. They are designed to make us stop, look, and listen to the places that shaped us as Europeans. In Pieria, this means walking where gods were worshipped, theatre was performed, and history was written in stone and marble. It’s not just an outing — it’s a dialogue between you and the people who lived here before.
We’ll be sharing photos, short videos, and stories from Dion throughout the weekend. Follow Instagram and Facebook to see real-time updates — and tag us if you visit, so we can feature your stories.
